How to choose the right material structure for wine capsules

For wine capsule projects, customers usually further confirm whether the material should be single-layer coated aluminum, printed foil, or an aluminum-plastic laminated structure.

Different structures affect not only the visual result, but also heat sealing compatibility, forming performance, downstream printing, and stability in mass production.

Which wine capsule projects are suitable for single-layer coated aluminum

If you focus more on clear surface appearance, stable printing compatibility, and a relatively direct processing route, single-layer coated aluminum is usually the more common choice.

This type of material is suitable for wine capsule projects that require good color presentation, printing results, top disc appearance, and consistency in downstream processing.

For many still wine projects, single-layer coated aluminum usually offers a good balance between appearance, processing, and cost.

Which projects are better suited to aluminum-plastic laminated structures

If your project has higher requirements for forming flexibility, structural compatibility, or downstream lamination performance, then an aluminum-plastic laminated structure is usually a better option.

A common industry practice is to use an aluminum + PE polylaminate structure for the skirt material to balance coverage, formability, and downstream processing performance.

For wine capsule projects that require more complex shapes, more structural coordination, or greater processing stability, laminated structures are often more suitable than single-layer aluminum.

Why many projects choose colored lacquer / primer on one side and heat seal lacquer on the other

In wine capsule materials, one common structure is transparent primer or colored lacquer on one side, and heat seal lacquer or a protective layer on the other.

The outer side focuses more on color presentation, print compatibility, and decorative effect, while the other side focuses more on the needs of downstream lamination, heat sealing, or structural bonding.

When the project needs to be combined with NC, vinyl, PVC, or other related polymer structures, heat seal lacquer becomes very important.

In addition, for wine capsule projects, food-grade coatings and primers suitable for downstream printing are not just material parameters. They also affect the visual result, processing compatibility, and whether the project can move forward smoothly.

Customization capability and project confirmation

Based on our previous communication and project coordination experience with customers, sample confirmation, structure confirmation, and process confirmation before mass production usually help reduce the risk of color difference, processing issues, size mismatch, and batch inconsistency.

  • Top disc and skirt material structure matching suggestions: Assist in confirming the more suitable combination of top disc and skirt material.
  • Color and surface effect customization: Support color matching based on samples, and different surface effect requirements can be discussed.
  • Printing process compatibility: Can match requirements for rotogravure, flexo, and other printing methods.
  • Heat sealing and downstream processing compatibility: Can be confirmed together with the heat seal layer, downstream lamination, and processing direction.
  • Decorative effect options: Support discussion of effects such as hot stamping, embossing, and top disc printing.
  • Custom non-standard sizes: Diameter, height, and coil specifications can be confirmed according to project requirements.
  • Functional structure detail customization: Options such as tear strip, perforation, vent holes, and special top effects can be discussed.
  • Sample and prototyping support: Sample confirmation and prototyping can be carried out based on existing samples, bottle dimensions, target colors, printing method, or target structure.
  • Still wine / sparkling wine project compatibility: More suitable materials and customization solutions can be confirmed according to different capsule structures, appearance requirements, and downstream processes.
  • Production line compatibility evaluation: Based on the customer's existing winding, stamping, bonding, and forming processes, the material can be evaluated in advance to confirm whether it is easier to slit, feed, and put directly into the current production line after delivery.
  • Pre-mass production risk control support: Through sample confirmation, structure confirmation, and process confirmation, help reduce the risk of color difference, processing issues, size mismatch, and batch inconsistency.

If you already have existing samples, bottle dimensions, target colors, printing method, or target structure, you can also send them to us directly.

This helps confirm the top disc, skirt material, surface effect, and downstream processing direction more quickly, and move forward with sampling, testing, and quotation.

Aluminum foil packaging production lines and processing capabilities

To support the application of high value-added wine capsule materials, we are equipped with coating, lamination, slitting, printing, and other production capabilities.

We have also introduced industry-leading production equipment and digital production process control (MES system) to support more stable and more traceable mass production.

In terms of processing routes, we use coating and processing systems that are more suitable for continuous production.

We are equipped with high-speed slitters, electronic shaft printing machines, imported laminating machines, coating machines, and other equipment. These support various processing directions such as color coating, printing, lamination, and embossing.

In terms of production environment and quality assurance, we have established a Class D clean workshop that meets GMP standards.

We are also equipped with an R&D and quality inspection center, as well as precision analysis and testing equipment, to carry out testing, analysis, and process control based on project requirements.

At the same time, supporting RTO organic waste gas treatment equipment and a standardized production management system also provide support for continuous, stable, and more sustainable production.

For customers, this means not only that the material can be produced as required, but also that there is a better chance of maintaining consistency in color, surface effect, processing performance, and batch-to-batch consistency.

Surface finish and printing compatibility

For wine capsule projects, customers are usually most concerned about whether the color is accurate, whether the printing is clear, whether hot stamping and embossing results are stable, and whether mass production will remain consistent after sample confirmation.

According to project requirements, we can support flexo / rotogravure printing, as well as top disc printing, hot stamping, embossing, and different surface finishes such as matte, shiny, and glossy.

For the top disc and skirt, more suitable decorative methods can be confirmed separately for different positions. The top disc is more suitable for logos, embossing, and visual focal effects, while the skirt focuses more on overall color, surface texture, and wraparound printing performance.

For long-term projects, color consistency and surface stability are especially important, because they directly affect the overall quality of the wine capsule and batch-to-batch supply performance.

How to choose between 3105 alloy and 8011 alloy

If your project is more focused on conventional wine capsule processing, decorative appearance, printing compatibility, and general sealing applications, 8011 is usually the more common choice.

If your project has higher requirements for strength, pressure resistance, and forming stability, 3105 is often worth prioritizing.

When to choose 8011

  • Used for general wine capsule converting projects.
  • More focused on conventional sealing, surface finish, and downstream printing compatibility.
  • Suitable for standard wine capsule and sealing aluminum material projects.
  • Suitable for projects seeking a balance between processing, appearance, and cost.

When to choose 3105

  • Used for closure-related applications with higher strength requirements.
  • More suitable for projects that need to withstand gas pressure or require higher structural strength.
  • Commonly used for screw caps, PP caps, beverage can ends, and some carbonated beverage-related applications.
  • When the project focuses more on tensile strength, elongation, compression performance, and deep drawing performance, 3105 usually has more advantages.

If you are not sure whether to choose 8011 or 3105, you can send us your project requirements directly. We can help recommend a more suitable alloy, temper, and thickness solution based on your application.

Packaging and export transportation

To reduce the risk of surface scratches, moisture exposure, and deformation during the transportation, handling, and storage of wine capsule aluminum foil coil, we use standard packaging methods suitable for sea export.

Coils or sheets are usually packed on wooden pallets with plastic protection, together with multiple protective layers such as kraft paper, paperboard, and desiccants to improve stability and safety during long-distance transportation.

For coil packaging, the common inner diameter is 405 mm, and Eye to Sky or Eye to Wall packaging can be provided according to transportation and handling requirements.

The overall packaging structure usually includes kraft paper, a plastic layer with desiccants, paperboard, and a wooden pallet reinforced with steel straps at the bottom, so it can better suit sea freight, warehousing, and repeated handling.

For export container loading, a 20GP container usually loads about 15–20 tons. The exact loading quantity can be further confirmed according to coil specifications, packaging method, and order structure.

In addition to standard export packaging, we can also adjust coils, sheets, pallet types, and protection methods according to customer requirements to better match different projects and transportation needs.

FAQ

Is wine capsule foil coil a finished wine capsule or a material for further processing?

Wine capsule foil coil is a semi-finished coil material for further processing, not a finished wine capsule in stock. It is usually used to make top disc, skirt material, and related wine capsule structures.

What is the difference between top disc and skirt material?

Top disc is the round disc part on the top of the wine capsule, while skirt material is the material for the skirt that wraps around the outside of the bottle neck.

They are used in different positions, and the appearance and processing requirements are also different.

How do I choose between single-layer coated aluminum and an aluminum-plastic laminated structure?

If the project focuses more on surface finish, printing compatibility, and simpler processing, single-layer coated aluminum is usually more common.

If forming flexibility, structural compatibility, and downstream lamination performance are more important, an aluminum-plastic laminated structure is usually more suitable.

Does aluminum foil release toxins when heated?

Under normal packaging and everyday contact conditions, aluminum foil itself does not mean it will release toxins when heated.

For wine capsule projects, what matters more is whether the material, coating, and structure meet the relevant food contact requirements.

What is the purpose of the foil on a wine bottle?

It is mainly used to protect the bottle mouth and cork, reduce contamination, and improve the appearance and brand recognition of the bottle.

For many wine packaging projects, it serves as both a protective structure and a decorative component.

When did wine bottle foil stop using lead?

Historically, wine bottle capsules were once made with lead foil, but it was gradually phased out later.

By the 1990s, most wine bottle capsules on the market had already switched to tin, plastic, aluminum, or aluminum-plastic laminated materials.

Can I cover wine with aluminum foil?

If it is only for temporary covering, aluminum foil can provide simple coverage. However, it cannot replace a proper sealing system and is not suitable for long-term storage.

For opened wine bottles, it is better to use the original cork, a wine stopper, or another dedicated sealing method.
