Test methods and notes

  • Total reflectance is measured according to DIN 5036-3.
  • The values shown above are typical reference data and may vary slightly depending on surface grade, finish, and production lot.
  • Iridescence classification: Grade 1 = Low iridescence; Grade 2 = Very low iridescence; Grade 3 = No iridescence.
  • Final technical values can be confirmed by approved samples or inspection documents upon request.

For reflective applications, total reflectance, diffuse reflectance, and iridescence control are usually more important than strength values alone, because they directly affect lighting efficiency, surface appearance, and batch consistency.

Why 1085 mirror aluminum has high reflectivity

The high reflectivity of 1085 mirror aluminum comes from controlled surface treatment and suitable follow-up processing. Through bright rolling, mirror polishing, and anodizing, the aluminum surface can achieve higher flatness and better reflective performance, while also improving surface durability and appearance stability.

For anodized mirror aluminum, anodizing forms a dense oxide film on the surface of the aluminum substrate. This oxide layer does not simply adhere to the surface. It bonds with the aluminum substrate, which helps improve corrosion resistance, long-term surface stability, and compatibility with decorative treatments such as coloring and sealing.

This means not only a brighter reflective surface, but also more stable appearance performance, better durability, and more reliable performance in stamping, bending, and subsequent processing.

Typical process flow:

  • Bright rolling / mirror polishing
  • Cleaning
  • Chemical polishing
  • Anodizing
  • Sealing
  • Final bright finishing

Mirror aluminum usually goes through surface pretreatment, anodizing, water rinsing, sealing, and final finishing to improve reflectivity, durability, and surface stability.

Typical applications of 1085 mirror aluminum

Based on practical project experience, not every application of 1085 mirror aluminum is suited to the same surface treatment route. Choosing the right product route is often more important than simply pursuing higher reflectivity.

  • Silver, gold, and black mirror coils and sheets are more commonly used for interior decoration, with the focus on surface effect and decorative texture.
  • For outdoor projects, anodized or PVD-coated mirror products are more recommended to achieve better surface durability and long-term stability.
  • Lighting reflectors pay more attention to total reflectance, diffuse reflectance, and surface performance after stamping.
  • Nameplates and signage components place more emphasis on mirror texture, surface consistency, and compatibility with subsequent processing.

Lighting and reflective applications

For lighting applications, 1060 and 1085 mirror aluminum coils and sheets are usually the safer choice.

A combination of about 86% total reflectance and about 16% diffuse reflectance can meet the balanced needs of most reflective lighting designs for brightness performance and processing compatibility.

  • Stamped mirror aluminum sheet for lighting fixtures.
  • Aluminum lamp reflector.
  • Mirror aluminum for plant lighting.
  • Reflective parts for high-temperature UV lamps.
  • Components for automotive lamp reflectors.

Signage and branded exterior components

Its smooth surface performs well in high-end lighting and signage applications. For signage use, the mirror effect helps create a clearer and more eye-catching display and stronger visual recognition.

  • Premium wine labels
  • Automotive emblems
  • Nameplate series
  • Decorative signage components
  • Exterior components for electronic instruments

For nameplates and signage components, 1050, 1070, and 1085 are all common choices. This combination is better suited to balancing mirror effect, surface consistency, and the needs of cutting, stamping, and subsequent forming.

Interior decorative applications

For interior decorative applications, silver, gold, and black mirror aluminum coils and sheets in 1070 and 1085 are usually more commonly used.

With total reflectance of about 86% and diffuse reflectance of about 16%, they are more suitable for projects that require metallic luster, decorative effect, and surface stability.

Mirror aluminum buying and handling tips

When sourcing mirror aluminum, buyers need to confirm more than just the alloy grade and reflectance.

In actual transactions, factors such as whether the surface is easy to scratch, whether protective film is supplied, whether the material can be delivered in coil, slit strip, or cut-to-size form, whether the dimensions match the production line, and whether samples can be approved first are equally important.

Confirm the surface protection method first

Mirror aluminum surfaces are more sensitive to scratches, friction marks, and handling damage.

If surface appearance is important for your project, it is better to confirm in advance whether protective film is included, how the material will be packed, and how surface damage risk can be reduced during transport.

Confirm the supply form in advance

For some buyers, coil is more suitable for continuous production and slitting.

For others, flat sheet or cut-to-size material is easier for stamping, bending, and direct installation.

Confirming the supply form before ordering can usually reduce extra processing steps later.

Select the material based on downstream processing

If the material will still need stamping, bending, laminating, slitting, or other secondary processing after delivery, it is better to confirm in advance whether the material is suitable.

The value of mirror aluminum is not only its reflective appearance. Aluminum itself is lighter, easier to transport, and usually more suitable for stamping, bending, and volume processing than glass mirror or some other reflective materials.

Make sure the specifications match the actual application

Thickness, width, coil weight, and cut length should ideally be confirmed together with your equipment and project requirements before ordering.

This is especially important for customers who need batch production or custom sizes.

Confirm samples first for safer selection

If your project has higher requirements for surface appearance, reflective consistency, or forming performance, it is usually safer to confirm samples before arranging mass production.

In many cases, buyers are confirming not only the reflectance itself, but also the surface condition, protective film, and actual processing suitability.

This allows us to support both standard supply and project-based custom processing.

Our annual deep-processing capacity exceeds 20,000 tons, supported by more than 300 skilled employees and experience from over 200 projects. This means we can handle not only regular orders, but also projects with higher requirements for processing, coating, and surface control.

In addition to stable sheet and coil supply, we also provide export packing, sample support, custom size processing, surface protection during shipment, technical data support, and fast response to help customers move more efficiently from material selection to bulk delivery.

Packaging and transport protection

Mirror aluminum is a product that is relatively sensitive to surface condition. Suitable packaging is therefore very important for reducing scratches, abrasion marks, and surface damage during transportation, handling, and loading and unloading.

We use standard export seaworthy packaging with wooden pallets, and the material surface is covered with a 50 ± 5 μm PE protective film. Horizontal or vertical pallet packaging can also be provided according to customer requirements.

For samples and finished parts with higher surface requirements, additional protective tape wrapping is recommended to further reduce the risk of surface scratches during handling, processing, and transportation.

To keep the protective film stable, mirror aluminum should be stored in a dry and well-ventilated environment, and protected from high temperatures and direct sunlight.

If exposed to high temperatures or strong sunlight for a long time, the protective film may become difficult to remove. For reflector and decorative component projects, this kind of packaging and storage control directly affects the surface finish and actual usability of the material after delivery.

We provide a full range of mirror aluminum solutions for various applications, from standard mirror aluminum to ultra-thin mirror aluminum.

If your project needs a different balance of reflectivity, thickness, durability, and processing suitability, the following products can help you choose a more suitable solution.
