The different tempers of 7475 aluminum plate

In the T61 temper (bare plate), the 7475 aluminum plate has a tensile strength of up to 552 MPa, a yield strength of 496 MPa, and an elongation of 12%, offering both high strength and good ductility. In the cladded (Alclad) form, its tensile strength is slightly lower at 517 MPa, but it still maintains good toughness, making it suitable for applications that require external corrosion protection.

The T651 temper is a widely used stress-relieved condition, with a tensile strength of up to 586 MPa, the highest among all tempers. It is ideal for aerospace structural parts, mold plates, and high-precision industrial components that demand high structural strength and dimensional stability.

The T7351 temper focuses on enhancing corrosion resistance and crack propagation resistance, with a tensile strength of 496 MPa and a yield strength of 421 MPa. While the strength is slightly lower, it offers superior fracture toughness and stress corrosion resistance, making it highly suitable for aerospace and protective structures that are subject to long-term service.

Additionally, the T761 and T7651 tempers of the 7475 aluminum plate strike a good balance between strength and ductility, with tensile strengths of 517 MPa and 531 MPa, respectively, and an elongation of 12%. These are suitable for structural components that require high strength while maintaining formability.

The differences between 7475 aluminum plate and 7075 aluminum plate

In high-strength aluminum alloys, both 7075 and 7475 are widely used in aerospace, military, and high-end industrial structures. What are the common quality problems of EN AW-7475 aluminum plate?

Plate shape quality: 7475 aluminum plate is widely used in aerospace and high-precision structural parts, and has extremely high requirements for plate flatness. During hot rolling and cold rolling, if the process control is not appropriate, local stress unevenness is likely to occur, resulting in uneven surface of the plate. Especially for aluminum plates in the ASTM B209 7475 T651 state, residual stress must be eliminated by stretching to avoid deformation after cutting or changes in plate shape during subsequent processing.

Appearance quality: Due to the high requirements for the surface state of 7475 aluminum plate, it is more likely to have appearance problems such as warping, waves, indentations, scratches, edge burrs or micro-cracks in its production, especially in the delivery of aviation-grade materials. These defects will directly affect product acceptance.

Dimensional quality: Aviation structural parts have very strict dimensional tolerance requirements for thickness, width, and length. If the rolling thickness control is unstable during the production process, or the shearing and cutting equipment is not accurate enough, it is easy to cause over-tolerance conditions, resulting in scrap or rework risks.

Surface quality: Common surface defects of 7475 aluminum plates include: sticking to the roller, roller marks, pull marks, water marks, stripes, oxidation marks, black spots, corrosion spots, etc. These problems are mostly related to rolling speed, emulsion state, roller system cleanliness and annealing process, and need to be controlled through full process monitoring and cleaning process optimization.
